Yaesu FT-290R fault any ideas?
I have a Yaesu FT-290R with no audio on receive. I bought this 2nd hand with no microphone - does it need a mic connected in order to complete the audio circuit on RX? Otherwise, are there any other common faults that could result in lack of audio output?
TX works fine and RX circuits appear to be fine - s meter shows signal strength received, just no audio output.
No, it's not the squelch - already checked that. Not the noise blanker either. Everything works just fine except the audio.
The radio may just be muted. Turn the squelch know fully counterclockwise. This should unmute the receiver and let you hear static. If you don't get static you could have a fault in the audio circuit or just a bad speaker. You could also check the noise blanker switch. Move it to the other position. This shouldn't prevent audio from being heard but it doesn't hurt to try it. If you don't have a manual there's one online at the link below.
