types of coaxial cables?
Hey, id like to extend the coaxial cable that runs into my cable modem. I was planning on using some kind of adapter, one with two female ends that i could plug the existing cable, and a new cable into. I've been doing some research and there seems like several kinds of coaxial cables and adapters, and im not sure which ones i need. The cable that i have was installed by comcast about 8 years ago. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks =)
Go to the electrical department of a large hardware store. They'll have TV connecting cable extensions with fittings on both ends, and that will work for you. You need to also buy an F-type barrel connector (see the link) that will be hanging on a hook in a plastic bag or box in the same area. Use it to connect your extension to the original cable.
The two cable types are RG-59 and RG-6, and either will work, although RG-6 is theoretically better. But for this purpose, it won't matter.
