i got a call from a teletype operator asking how she can pay me. is this fake?
so i had put an ad in a paper for selling an item and 3 days later got a call from a teletype operator wanting to see pictures and make arrangement to pay. i got worried and hung up, and the whole time i talked to her, i herd her typing as if she were recording everything i said. was this fake? a hack? or was it really a deaf person calling asking for my item? i live in a very small town, and by searching on the internet i found that teleprinters were dated back to the 1970's. is it possible they still use them today?

Lots of foreign check counterfeiters answer classified ads, often offering to overpay if you return a portion, I would guess they don't speak English well enough to pretend to be local.
Tough for deaf people...
