SSB (Single Side Band) is kind of modulation which has only one side of band transmitted. AM (Amplitude Modulation) has 3 elements which are transmitted: USB (Upper Side Band), carrier signal, and LSB (Lower Side Band). So SSB could be developed from AM by filtering AM twice. First filter which is called balanced modulator suppresses carrier. Second filter which is called SSB filter, suppresses one side of band, either USB or LSB. If USB suppressed, then the modulation is called LSB. If LSB is suppressed, then the modulation is called USB. One type of SSB filter made of Quartz Crystal. This SSB filter has very high Q (Quality) factor affects on very narrow bandwidth suppressed.
Third filter could be BPF (Band Pass Filter) put at the end (before antenna). This BPF functions to suppress harmonics those surely come with carrier signal.
I have never heard about another important filters in SSB transmission. But if SSB reception could be involved, there are several important filters: IF filter/s. IF filter could be several depends on how many times IF (Intermediate Frequency) would be decreased. IF (Intermediate Frequency) is technique used in Superheterodyne receiver. Purpose of this Intermediate Frequency (with lower frequency compared to carrier signal) is to ease amplification process by transistor/vacuum tube. Transistor/vacuum tube has higher gain when working frequency is lower. Higher working frequency of any transistors, gain would be lower, therefore higher working frequency, to get same gain, needed more transistors.
