Can you have two different style antennas on a USB wireless adapter?
I'm thinking about buying a dual antenna usb wireless adapter from deal extreme and then buying an omni-directional antenna and a directional antenna. (connection through SMA)
It shouldn't hurt anything. But I don't think you'll get the results you are expecting.
Dual antenna adapters (or dual antenna routers) don't add the signals from both antennas. Instead, they continuously monitor the signal strength from each antenna, and use whichever one gives you the strongest signal at the moment. (This can change from moment to moment, even if you don't move your computer.)
With one directional and one omni-directional antenna, the adapter will probably use the directional antenna continuously if it is properly aimed, or the omni-directional antenna continuously, if the directional antenna is not properly aimed.
