Fancy powerstrip question?
I am getting a nice powerstrip, but have some questions about it. It's linked below if you want to look at it, so you have some idea of what I'm talking about. Anyway - Theirs one area marked as Control Outlet, three marked as constantly hot and the rest as auto-switching outlets. What do these mean? The main reason I am getting this powerstrip is because of the EMI/RFI filtering and to save a tiny bit of energy.

I am mainly getting this strip for the filtering though to help with a audio hum / buzz, I was un-able to find other strips with this feature.
The "auto-switching" outlets are automatically controlled by whatever is plugged into the "control outlet."
A typical use would be: You plug your computer's main box into the "control outlet" and then your monitor, printer, and speakers into the auto-switching. Then when you turn your computer off the other three things turn off automatically too. Then you'd plug desk lamps or whatever into the other outlets, as you likely wouldn't want those to be switched automatically.
Some power strips like this do have an override switch so you can make all the outlets constantly hot. But if you don't have a use for the "auto switch" behavior it'll likely be much cheaper to buy a power strip without it. More reliable, too.
