2-way UHF/VHF Radio repeater Capable?
I have 2 Midland 2-way radios. I tried to talk on them using a public repeater in my area and they did not work. Later I found out that in order to use the repeater you need a Duplex capable radio.
Which brands and models of radios are duplex capable? What power should I get in order to use it. The repeater in my area covers a whole metropolitan area so I am not sure if the radio's power affects the signal to the repeater and back. What is the big difference between UHF and VHF?
Please try to answer as much of these questions so I can understand there radio stuff...Thanks.

Most all radios are duplex, that is, you transmit on one freq, and receive on the other. The difference is the offset.
Sounds to me as if you are using some junk you picked up cheap.
You will need one radio per band, there are NO commercial certified transceivers that allow VHF and UHF in the same case. No "dual band".
Also, you must use a transceiver that is FCC Certified for the service you want to use. If you do not, the potential FCC Fine is $10,000 dollars per day on each infraction.
