The 8 resistor in the figure below is dissipating 38 W of power. How much power are the other two resistors dissipating?

This one was very tough. Start by finding the current using the power formula I = the square root of P R which gives you 2.18Amps in the 8ohms resistor. Next find the voltage using Ohms law V = I R which gives you 17.44V. In parallel the voltage always stays the same so we know that 17.44v will be running through the 20ohms resistor. Using ohms law again we calculate the current I = V R which gives 872mAmps running through the 20ohms resistor. Now add up the two current drops and that will give you 3.05Amps for the total current. Current always stays the same in series so we know the current will be 3.05Amps running through the 5ohms resistor. Now find the voltage using ohms law V= I x R which gives you 15.25V across the 5ohms resistor. Now calculate the power for each one using the power formula P = I x V. So for the 20ohms resistor do 872mAmps x 17.44v which will give you 15.20Watts. For the 5ohms resistor do 3.05Amps x 15.25V which will give you 46.51Watts. For the 8ohms resistor do 2.18Amps x 17.44 which will give you 38watts of power.
