How do I best set up a garage door opener signal receiver?
I have a remote in one car and use the built-in transmitter in my other car. When using the built-in transmitter the garage door opens fine, but the signal does not always seem to get through to close the door, so I have to push the transmitter 10-12 times to close the door. I guess there is some interference from the door itself when it is in the open position. Right now the signal receiver antenna is just kind of dangling from the garage ceiling. Is there a better way to arrange it. The opener model is a Genie 850 (appears to be ancient). I don't have a manual or any literature for it.
Unfortunately, we see this pretty often with built in transmitters in vehicles. The FCC over the years greatly reduced the range at which garage door transmitters (and similar devices) can function so, in effect, newer transmitters tend to be "weaker." The best remedy we have found is to make sure your vehicle is in motion and you press and hold the button until the door begins to move - of course, be sure your vehicle's path is clear! You don't have to be moving fast but slowly rolling your vehicle can help the transmitter by moving out of any "dead space" it may be in. Likewise, handheld remotes will many times work better if you wave your hand while holding the button. Hope this helps!
