can i hook up one coil of a dual voice coil 2 ohm sub and get 2 ohm?
sub is ma audio hk15x2 15 inch 4000 watts, cant hook it up parrelel cuz ill get a 1 ohm and my amp is not compatible, hooked it up different and got 4 ohm but sub says input 2 0hms so theres got to be a way please help. amp is hk4000d
Never hook up only one voice coil on any dual or quad voice coil sub. all the parameters including power handling,resonant frequency, correct box size,ect. are all based and tested with all voice coils connected. even though the sub will play with only one voice connected it can't generate the same magnetic Field to work against the stationary magnet. this means less power handling,less output, it sounds bad and the box specs no longer apply. Also to compensate for less output it's likely you'll crank the amp gains up and because the subs power handing capability has been compromised that voice coil won't last long.
