Marine Ham Radio

Ham radio-I just bought a yaesu-ft60r-programming question?

The two way ham part works fine but I also want to be able to scan non ham channels-like marine channels-how do I do that? The instruction book is complicated beyone belief.

You should join the yahoo group -

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FT-60/

You are not the first to complain about the manual. Treat non-ham frequencies just like ham frequencies, but you can't transmit.

Follow the page steps below. Update your question when you get stuck. I could copy every thing from the manual below, but it would be easier to know specifically what is the problem.

Channel 16 is 156.8 MHz.
Page 14 - Entering a frequency
Page 28 - Storing the Frequency to Memory
Page 37 - Memory Scanning

For more advanced 'bank scanning' for future reference.

Page 39 - Scanning Memories in a Bank
I add this because you will get tired of scanning ALL of your memories.

If you don't mind soldering, you can make your own programming cable and use a programming software. FT Commander is free, but some members of the group above don't care for it. The others will cost, but not too much.
