Subwoofer Box and Amp Question?
What are some of the ways I can tell if my subwoofer box is too small? When I turn my volume up high I hear more vent noise, distortion, and it doesnt sound as loud. Is the box too small or do I need a larger vented port? Someone help me out a little on this... One more question is about my amplifier. Sometimes when I play my music loud for about 15-20 mins the amp will shut off until I crank my car again... Is it because it is not getting enough voltage? Because my caps will read as low as 10 volts sometimes. So if you can answer these questions I would appreciate it alot!
The capacitors are daisy-chained and the sub is a 12-inch MTX 9500. Both amps are 900 RMS a piece and Im running 4 gauge all the way as far as power and ground is concerned. 12 gauge speaker wire.
I'm not sure about the speaker box situation. It sounds to me like you don't have the right cubic feet enclosure for the speaker or vent port. The volume of the box is crucial for resonating bass tones.
As far as the amp goes, you are going into protection because of heat or because of power issues. If your power fluctuates too much, or if the amplifier gets too hot, it will automatically shut down until you reset it. Turning your car off and on resets it with the remote wire signal. If your "caps" read 10V sometimes, then you are drawing power from them faster than your alternator can supply current, which sounds like it could be a connection issue, because you battery should be quickly charging the caps back up to 12V after a big bass hit. Check your wiring, check your battery, and make sure you're not overdrawing from your alternator.
