What is better marine radios (vhf) or 2-way (gmr)?
For my new job I have to buy one or the other, I'm mainly looking for range, but I'm also liking the fact of vehicle mounted units for the marine plus the big hand-held is a plus. Maybe find a car charger for a two way? What one would have more people on?
Don't use a marine radio on land. Period.
Authorities governing the use of radio would be breathing down your neck in a hurry,
and not because they were horny.
FRS and/or GMRS are good for short-range use, generally not more than a couple
of blocks in a built-up area, and maybe as much as half a mile in open country.
Don't believe the hype in ads or on packaging that suggests a range of several miles
-- it simply isn't true.
There are proper frequency bands and radios for almost any purpose.
Research this matter by asking the right people near where you live / work
the right sorts of questions, which will include telling them what your real needs are.
Be prepared to obtain a license for almost anything,
including GMRS, that will transmit farther than FRS radios do,
and check the applicable rules and regulations
before you use ANY two-way radio.
