Ham Radio Wire Antennas

Another question about ham radio antennas?

i have about 30 feet of 12 gauge speaker wire i want to use as an antenna.......i want to run 100 watts.....are there any major concerns i should have about this (melting of outer shield....etc) i have a bad feeling that something would go wrong but im not sure....

There's more to putting up an antenna than just stretching a wire between 2 points. You need to match the impedance of your transmitters output and understand the characteristics of the antenna. Will it be directional or omni? What frequency will it be useful for? You also don't use a shielded wire for the antenna itself. This will block the signal. Check the link below for more information on antennas. You can also find a lot of information in the ARRL antenna book.
