Ham Radio Terms

In simple terms, how do Ham Radios work?

Doing a project for school, and would like a brief, not to in depth description of how exactly amateur radios work.

The same as any other radio transmitter.

You need two signals: a carrier, and a message (audio).

The carrier is generated by an oscillator.

The message then modifies the carrier, either by changing the carrier's frequency (FM) or changing the carrier's amplitude (AM).

If you listen to a regular FM radio, the carrier might be 98.1 FM, or 103.5 MHz, etc.

Most amateurs start of at around 146.52 MHz, using FM, and a "handy talkie".
