Ham Radio Review

Ham Radio, Ic-703, ic-718, ft-450, CW, HF?

I am getting into cw, haven't been on the air yet in cw. I'm in college now, so money is low but who isn't. I like the running off dc to be a field set up. Which radio do you think would be good.

I don't like how the ic-703 is low power but the reviews are awesome and I like how small it is. The main reason why I like the 450 and 718 is because of the output. I hear the 718 is a really good receiver but the 450 is not. I don't know.

At this moment i'm really liking the 703, but the low power. So tell me what you think. Thanks.
Oh and you can add in any other rigs also. and another thing. I just started to read about the cw filters, so if you have and input please tell. thanks

Well, the 450 has the IF-DSP and 100 watts clear up through 6 meters, which is heating up. The review in December 2007 said it wasn't a mobile sized rig, so its not for that, but you can still run it on DC, its a DC rig, but it may be the wrong size for the car.

The IF-DSP is sort of a new thing, and I had been planning to get an IC 706Mark II B before I started reading about the great things, in reduction of noise, and in selectivity from the IF-DSP, then I spent a little more and bought an IC 746.

I had considered the 706 because it will go all the way to 70 cm, with multimode functions.

The 450 has full break in, and it also has a function to work on your fist off the air. The only reason I know that was because a young man had posted a question about CW and I replied, and mentioned that if he had further questions he could e-mail me, which he did, and mentioned the FT-450, so I looked up the review.

I'll extend the same invitation to you about the e-mail, I'd be delighted to help you with any questions. Who knows, I could be turning into an "e-Elmer".
