Ham Radio Question about Antennas?
I'm a HAM n00b and was looking at putting up an antenna that is home built, but I'm having some trouble grasping what an antenna actually consists of for HF transmissions.
I've seen people selling what appears to just be a length of Coax Cable and calling that an antenna. Is this true? Can I just go out and run a length of Coax across the ridge of my roof and call it a day?
that should be covered in the material you have to learn to pass the exams for your license but you can start with a simple dipole antenna, there are lots of sites online that explain them. Do a search for the ARRL site or QRZ for starters.
