Ham Radio Circuits

PC Hobbyists vs Ham Radio Operators?

Tech geeks used to study ham radio and build circuits. Now many of them tinker with computers and software instead. How has this affected electronics technology development?
I would like to know your opinion of whether it has caused the number of inventions created or inspired by hammers to increase or decrease. Hams have added a lot of knowledge to electronics technology. Is it still as much?

I have held my ticket for over 50 yrs. I had to build my own Trans-Receiver, make my own antenna's, and this to date, has helped me with advances in the communications field. Though there are those who would rather buy than build, and use a PC to make contacts, there are still others as I that do it the old way.
These PC Hams are not from the old school, they buy their equipment, when it/they fail or break, the go and get another. This does not help the (in my opinion) the communication field.
I have talked with these PC hams, and they had to memorize the questions to get their tickets, they can not hold a conversation on the equipment they bought, they should have stuck to the telephone, or CB.
I have seen CB (then Business Band Radio) go to he_ _ with the way it has turned.
So, in answer to the question at hand, IT HAS NOT HELPED IN ANY WAY. Don't get mad and send me nasty notes, it's my opinion, and I am allowed my opinion..
OH YES.....WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY TECH GEEKS????
