do i need the entire antenna for a cb radio to work?
i got a window mount antenna for my sb because i have no flat spots on my little car to mount the magnetic one (not to mention its huge and ridiculous). i mounted the new one on the back of my roof (the entire roof is glass) and the main antenna is only abut 1ft long. the whip adds another 18" to it, but can i use it with just the base? im not too concerned about signal strength, i only use it with my friends and we are usually within 1 mile of eachother. i wasnt sure if there was something to do with drawing the current away form the radio so it doesnt burn out the circuitry or something., is it ok to run it without the long whip?
no it's not ok to run without the whip section as that section is required to keep the antenna and radio matched as the center of your antenna has a load coil , you wont be able to transmit 50 ft, and with continued transmitting will burn out the radio.
