What could be wrong with my HP Photosmart C618 Digital Camera? Are there any photography experts out there?
It was working fine the other day, and now it isn't. When I try to take a picture, I hear the shutter click and see a flash go off. Then the screen goes blank, and I can't display the picture I just took.
I just reformatted the memory card before all this started happening. Could that have anything to do with it? If I go back and try to review the picture, it says there are none. I'm only an amateur, so if I'm doing something stupid, please don't laugh. I just need help--please!
WHERE did you format the card? It should ALWAYS be done in the camera, never the computer. If you did do the format in the camera, then that should have nothing to do with your problem.
You say the flash goes off, Everytime. In any conditions? Turn the flash OFF and see if it still goes off, which of course it should not do.
How old is the battery? Eventually the battery will not longer hold a charge, and especially if the flash is going off, it can kill the battery instantly and you will have no photo.
So is the camera going completely dead after you try to take a photo, or is the camera staying on, but you are just not getting any photo at all? Again, get in some different conditions and see what happens. Can you get a photo outside in daylight?
You really have to start systematically and logically narrowing down when you are and are not having problems.
You may also want to look in your owners manual and see how to reset the camera to all factory defaults. Do that, put the camera in AUTO, and see what you get.
If after doing these kinds of things you still have no results, then I really don't know what else to tell you other than a camera repair may be needed, and sometimes that is more costly than simply replacing the camera with a new one.
