fdc failure,press F1 to reume priblems?
Sometimes the computer reads fdc failure, press F1 to resume, or it will go to the "choose a configuration I want(1) normal (2) last working configuration, (3) safe mode Etc Etc. I installed norton systems and tried the recovery disk for that, nothing. I went into set up and changed the cpu/dram to 133/166 and 133/133, it was on 100/100 and changed the battery on the motherboard because the info I would change in setup would stick. Sometimes the xp professional window would come on even up to the icon of the user that comes on after the windows xp professional with the moving dotted lines are. Once in a while it will get to the place where you put in the name and password but the cursor won't work. I have a p4 1.70 Ghz, 512 sdram 133,80gb harddrive, motherboard is a ecs p4s5a.
FDC is the floppy disk controller and the message is from the system bios. It means 1 of 2 things. 1) the floppy drive (a: drive) is going out and the system check when you turn it on is giving an error code because of it or 2) there is something wrong with the floppy disk controller on the motherboard or the bios is bad (either way = bad motherboard). If you are comfortable with opening the comptuer up and you don't use the floppy drive anymore (who does?) try disconnecting the cords to the floppy drive to see if this solves anything.
