I have a yaesu/vertex vx7r which will no longer run on battery power (only external DC)?
I have a VX7R, serial number 2L050565, which will no longer turn on while on battery power. It works fine with the power adapter plugged in.
It was in storage for a few months and the battery completely died. When I charged it up for a few hours (battery in the radio, turned off, plugged into external power), the display eventually showed "charging complete", but it would still only work on external power. I've replaced the battery with a brand new one, but that didn't resolve the problem.
I've also tried turning on the radio with external power, then unplugging it. The radio dies as soon as the external power is disconnected.
Has anyone seen this problem before and been able to fix it? I'm an experienced electronics tech, but I don't want to screw with the insides of the radio unless there is a documented solution.
There is a switch that is engaged when you plug in the D.C plug that disengages the battery circuit. If this switch is faulty or stuck, might be the problem (replace the DC power jack). Or, check for corroded baterry terminals.
