Which handheld transceiver should i choose for aviation?
I am looking to buy a transceiver and i am trying to decide which one to buy. i am choosing between
Vertex VXA-300 Pilot III Airband Nav/Com Transceiver

Both of these have very good battery life but i think the major factor is the navigation display. i am sure the 710 spirit has a very good easy to read screen because of the dot matrix display but i am not sure about the Pilot III
If anyone could help me out as to which one i should choose that would be greatly appreciated.
Great choices, and in my opinion The Vertex radios are the best aviation tranceivers made (just look at the Yaesu legacy). If it is going to be your only on-board navigation source, go with the 710 because it is easier to read in all conditions. However, if you are only using it as a back-up, it isn't really worth he extra $80 for the dot-matrix display. The 710 does also include standard broadcast FM capability, which I like and it is useful for entertainment, news, etc., especially if you don't carry a wireless PDA device and feel the need to know what's going on in the world at any given moment. Coupled with an external antenna it can provide some in-flight entertainment if you can't spring for XM radio. I have the 710 and love it.
