How should I properly ground my ham radio antenna?
I've got a end fed antenna fed with 50 ohm coax. It hangs in a tree up about 50' at its tallest point. From there, the coax comes in through the attic and the wall and into a wall port I setup. Some suggest I should ground the antenna with one ground point connected at the coax where it comes out of the wall and then put another ground point outside. Both ground points would go to ground rods. Some have told me I don't need a ground but I was testing my setup yesterday with an antenna analyzer and without the antenna grounded, if I looped the coax on itself, the swr changed. that sounds like some rf energy building up. My friend said that would be dissipated if I grounded the antenna. What do you think?
