Ham radio. Tv interference problem?
I have a diamond cp-6 installed about 10 meters from the tv antenna. But while transmitting on 20m 15m and six meters the tv signal distorts very intenselly. Is this normal? What can I do to prevent this?
Since the ham vertical antenna is cross pole with TV (horizontal) it should not be a problem caused by the antenna. If the transmission line to the antenna is not operated at near 1 vswr, then the transmission line can act as a radiator, which is more often the cause of TVI. Keeping the TV feedin cable as far distant from the Ham radio coax as possible may help. Are you still on analog TV? Ham radio, even on harmonics, should not affect DTV reception.
The problem may be direct radiation from your ham rig to the TV set. The TV set uses a 45 MHz IF, which is the 3rd harmonic of 20 meters, the 2nd harmonic of 15 meters, and close to the low end of 6 meters. IF break through would affect every channel the TV receives, not just channel 2. Your ham rig may need its RF grounding attended to. Try putting Ferrite cores on all wires connected the TV set, power and antenna feedline at a minimum.
And the problem may be over-drive of your ham rig, trying to get more power out of the rig may be generating a lot of spurious. If you know of a Ham radio club, contact them, they have more resources to track down TVI problems.
